What is Halcyon?
First off, thank you for being here. Launching this site is a pretty surreal moment for me — it's something I’ve been thinking about for years, and now it’s finally starting to take shape. Halcyon isn’t just an app idea or a side project; it’s a response to the way life tends to blindside us with challenges no one ever really prepares us for.
The truth is, most of the skills that make or break our confidence as adults — managing money, navigating big life decisions, and understanding how to build something of your own — don’t show up in school. At least they didn’t for me. I’ve spent the last five years stumbling, learning the hard way, and wishing someone had handed me a study guide before I was already knee-deep in the test. That frustration became fuel, and that fuel became Halcyon.
So what is Halcyon? Think of it like Duolingo, but instead of learning a language, you’re picking up the tools that will keep you afloat in life. Our goal is to make learning these lessons engaging, playful, and straightforward — so you’re not only gaining knowledge but also enjoying the process. We’re building it with gamification, a friendly mascot (Hallie the kingfisher, who you’ll be seeing a lot of), and a design that rewards curiosity instead of punishing mistakes.
As for me, my name’s Ethan Muna. I’m a student, a connector, and a lifelong learner. I’ve always dreamed of building something of my own, something that mattered — and Halcyon is my way of combining that ambition with my personal experiences. Over the years, I’ve been beaten and bruised by the things I didn't even know that I needed to know, and now I want to make sure fewer people have to go through the same thing.
